Introducing Sophi and her new blog “Saving Sharks with Sophi”

My name is Sophi and I am 7 ½ years old.  This is my blog.

I live in Richfield, Minnesota, USA, with my Mom, Dad and sister Signe.  I like to draw, read, play outside and study the ocean.

My favorite thing about the ocean is sharks.  I LOVE them!!  I like to read about them, watch shows about them, collect facts about them and draw them.  My favorite shark is the hammerhead.

New Publication on Predation Pressure to Fishes in Mangrove-Seagrass Habitats

Dear all,

I would like to inform you of a new publication based on our studies in Biscayne Bay.  Hundreds of students were involved with this work.

The study examines day & night differences in predation pressure to juvenile fishes with increasing distance from the mangrove-seagrass shoreline.

The show will feature some of the latest Great White Shark Research recently published by Dr. Hammerschlag and his team in the Journal of Zoology.

New Publication on Fish Seine Research in Biscayne Bay

I would like to inform you of a new scientific publication based on our research that will be published in the journal “Marine Ecology.”

The article titled “Nocturnal Fish Utilization of a Subtropical Mangrove-Seagrass Ecotone” is based on research we did at night in Biscayne Bay (Florida), surveying fish distributions using seine nets.

Establishment of RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program

January 18 is the inaguaration of the RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at the University of Miami.

The R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program is a joint program of the Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science and the Leonard and Jayne Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy at the University of Miami.
