The Story Behind the Name:
In June, 2014, Nautica, Oceana and ocean advocate Austin Nichols spent two days on the water with the SRC team to assist with tagging. The trip was part of a collaboration between Nautica, Oceana and Austin that began in May with Nichols co-hosting the Nautica Oceana Beach House in Santa Monica and went until the end-of-summer when Nautica sold limited edition t-shirts – designed by Nichols – to benefit Oceana’s conservation work.
Shark tagging plays a key role in shark conservation and this trip was a chance for Nautica and Oceana to recognize and highlight the importance of good data and sound science in Oceana’s efforts to advocate on behalf of sharks, which are threatened by commercial fishing activities in Florida and beyond.
